Part I: General

1.01 DESCRIPTION:

• Honex Honing Powder™ is a unique blend of abrasive compounds that will help smooth heavily worn marble and terrazzo surfaces. It is a perfect preparation for use on heavily worn surfaces prior to using SCI's polishing powders or MARBACREAM. It is also ideal for smoothing out heavy floor traffic patterns, surface scratches, heavy etches or abrasions, and deep glass rings. HONEX will even remove crystallization coatings and crystallization overspray. It can be used on marble and terrazzo floors, vanities, tabletops, countertops, and walls.

1.02 SUMMARY:

• Polishing powders are the natural way to polish marble and terrazzo stone surfaces. It often occurs that the surfaces become heavily worn and must be smoothed out prior to using a polishing powder or cream. By using HONEX before powder polishing, the stone surface will be smooth and prepared for maximum polishing results.

3.04 SUBMITTALS:

• Stone Care International Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

3.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE:

• Always test a small area before using to assure compatibility.

• Test Area: Apply HONEX to a small area at the project site in accordance with the manufacturer's directions of the bottle label. Be sure to record all the test results including coverage and stain prevention.

3.06 PRODUCT WARRANTY:

• SCI guarantees complete satisfaction of its products. If not completely satisfied with the performance of the product, when used as directed and the surface has been tested first, contact Stone Care International, Inc. for a refund of the purchase price or a replacement by another SCI product. Determining the suitability of the product for any intended purpose shall be solely the responsibility of the user. There are no warranties, express or implied, including those of merchantability or fitness for particular purpose which extend beyond the description on the product label.

3.07 HANDLING:

• Have MSDS sheets accessible at all times.
• Product must be delivered undamaged and in the original containers with labels intact and legible.

3.08 RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Always test on a small area before using.
• Natural stone should be protected with STONE SPRAY-N-SEAL penetrating sealer.
• Follow the recommended SCI cleaning procedures for MARBALEX & MARBAMIST.
• If heavy abrasions or scratches are on the surface, use HONEX prior to using the polishing powder.
• While in the container, Honex Honing Powder™ may absorb moisture and become hard. This will not affect the performance of the product.
• Cover all surfaces that are not stone.
• Always wear protective clothing such as safety goggles, gloves, and footwear.

3.09 FIRST AID:

• Eyes: Flush immediately with water; call physician immediately. Obtain medical attention if severe irritation occurs.
• Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with soap and water; rinse thoroughly; call physician if symptoms persist.
• Inhalation: Remove victim from area of exposure to fresh air; call physician if symptoms persist. If not breathing give artificial respiration and seek medical attention.
• Ingestion: Dilute by drinking large amounts of water. Repeat at least once and then administer milk of magnesia as an emollient. Do not induce vomiting. Obtain medical attention immediately.

PART IV- Product Procedures:

4.01 PREPARING THE SURFACE:

1. Be sure that the surface is free from loose debris and sediment.
2. Dust/dry mop the floor at least two times daily.

4.02 FLOOR SURFACES:

• Honing with an Automatic Scrubber:
  1. Dust mop the surface using a STONEGLIDE Dust Mop.
  2. Remove all topical coatings with STONE STRIPPER.
     (Solvent based coatings must be removed with a solvent based stripper.)
  3. Wet mop the stone surface using MARBALEX.
  4. Install a hogs hair or a white pad to the drive pad of the machine.
  5. Generously spray water onto the floor surface not to exceed a 36 square foot area.
  6. Sprinkle HONEX POWDER on to the wet surface.
     *(One cup of powder per 16 square feet)
  7. Place the machine and pad on top of the powder and water mix.
     (This will develop into a paste.)
  8. Proceed forward and backward with the scrubber staying within the perimeter of the wet area completing six passes.
     (More worn stone may require more passes.)
  9. Add more water as the paste becomes dry.
  10. Continue working powder until the stone surface becomes dull.
  11. When desired dullness is achieved, remove paste with a wet vac.
  12. Rinse thoroughly with MARBALEX before proceeding to the polishing stage.
  13. Dry dust mop after the floor surface is completely dry.
• Honing with a Manual 175 RPM Buffing Machine:
  1. Dust mop the surface using a STONEGLIDE Dust Mop.
  2. Remove all topical coatings with STONE STRIPPER.
     (Solvent based strippers must be removed with a solvent based stripper.)
  3. Wet mop the stone surface using MARBALEX.
  4. Install a soft white polishing pad to the drive pad of the machine.
     (175-300 rpm standard floor machine.)
  5. Generously spray water to the floor surface not to exceed a 16 square foot area.
  6. Sprinkle HONEX POWDER on to the wet surface so that it covers no more than the diameter of the pad.
     *(One cup of HONEX per 16 square feet.)
  7. Place the machine and pad on top of the powder and water mix.
  8. Proceed by operating the machine in a left to right sideward pattern completing 6 passes per section. (More worn stone may require more passes.) This will change the powder and water mixture into a loose paste.
  9. Stay within the perimeter of the wet area and spray more water as the paste dries.
  10. Continue working the powder until the stone surface becomes dull.
  11. When desired dullness is achieved, remove paste with a wet vac.
  12. Rinse thoroughly with MARBALEX before proceeding to the polishing stage.
  13. Dry dust mop after the floor surface is completely dry.

4.03 TABLETOPS, VANITIES, WALLS, COLUMNS:

1. Remove loose debris from the stone surface and spray clean with MARBAMIST.
2. Strip off any remaining topical coating.
3. Cover all wall coverings and carpeted areas.
4. Use a white felt pad on the hand machine or use a damp terry cloth towel when polishing by hand.
5. Spray water onto the surface.
6. Sprinkle HONEX POWDER onto the water to create a paste.
7. Begin buffing by hand in a circular motion for 30 seconds or use a hand machine at LOW RPM keeping the surface moist at all times.

8. Remove the paste with a squeegee before it dries to see if the desired dullness has appeared. If not, push the paste back onto the surface and begin honing again until the dullness occurs.

9. Rinse the surface with MARBAMIST using a clean soft cloth.
